Squeaky Clean. Squeaky Clear. Squeaky Bright!

So lately I’ve been obsessed with creating DIY facial masks. They’re super cheap and I love knowing exactly what I’m slathering on my face (and hands!).  When I started this a few weeks ago I just used plain Greek yogurt. Then I did some research. I started adding honey, a touch of cinnamon and sometimes a dash of turmeric powder.

I can’t believe the difference I have seen in my skin! It’s softer, breakouts heal faster and my dark spots have started to fade. I may be crazy, or high off of cinnamon fumes, but I think my pores are shrinking! Just be careful to not use too much turmeric or leave it on for too long…. it tends to leave a slight yellow tint behind.  Play around with your ingredients and let us know your favorite way to make an at-home mask.

1st Birchbox Review

This month, I decided to do things a little different. I have been a Birchbox member for a few months now and thought it would be a good idea to do a few quick reviews on some of the products I’ve received in the last few months.  If you’re not familiar with Birchbox, you should get in the know! Birchbox is like a magazine subscription, but with beauty products! For $10 a month Birchbox will send you a box with about four different products. The best part is you don’t know what you’re going to get until you open the box! (Unless you like to cheat and look up your account online like someone I know…..coughcoughTaylorcoughcough)
This month I was not as impressed with my box as I have been in the past. My favorite item from February’s box was the travel-friendly Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant. This stuff is so neat!! It’s an exfoliating scrub but it isn’t a liquid! It’s a powder that you put on your fingers, add water and scrub off all your dead skin! The fact that it is a powder means you can throw it in your carryon with no worries! I’ve used it a few times and can tell it will last a long time since you don’t need a lot of product to cover your face. Dermalogica’s Daily Microfoliant sells for $50 on their website. I also received Eye Rock Designer Liner. This stuff is weird. They are little slips of eyeliner in different shapes. The idea is that you just peel the strips off, stick them to your eyelids and boom, you’re good to go. I haven’t gotten the chance, or the courage, to try these out yet, but they seem like a really neat idea. I’ll be sure to tweet my thoughts when I do try them out. My least favorite product this month is Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint. I am not a fan of the brand in the first place, but when I saw the size of this sample I was livid!! The tiny tube is probably as long as a safety pin and has enough product in it to maybe cover half of my face. Major letdown.

Flakes be Gone!

So I’m sitting here with with my boscia luminizing black mask on (don’t worry, we’ll review this miracle in  a tube soon) thinking about how happy I am that I have discovered the perfect moisturizer to make flakey, wintery skin a thing of the past. boscia’s Intensifying Moisture Pack is the only product I have ever used that makes my super dry skin, flake free. I used to go to bed with cracked skin that I would cover with a thick moisturizer in hopes of waking up to smooth, moisturized skin. That was always my plan, but I never got the results I had hoped for….until now.

The Intensifying Moisture Pack can be used as a moisturizer, an intensifier or a mask. At first I was worried that if I slathered it on and didn’t tissue it off I would wake up with a major breakout. So I decided to use it as a mask. I put some on and wiped it off after a few minutes. I did notice improvement after a few nights of doing this. Then I got brave. I put on a small amount and kept it on overnight. This is the way to go! I woke up without flakes or dry patches after the first night of keeping it on! Ahhmazzzing.
I know that $30 is a bit silly for less than three ounces of product, but believe me when I say a teeny tiny bit goes a very long way.  If you’re worried that you wont love this product as much as I do, ask for a sample from Sephora (mine lasted a month!).

Sugar Rush

Happy New Year! I hope you had fun celebrating!

To start off the year, I want to recommend two products that I have recently fallen in love with for My First Quickie. The Texas winter has been brutal to my hair, skin, and especially face—mainly my lips. It seems that no matter what I did they were chapped and peeling…then I discovered Fresh Sugar. I purchased the Fresh Sugar Fix duo kit from Sephora for $22 and could not be more pleased. After one use my lips were smooth and healthy feeling! The kit comes with a mini version of the Sugar Lip Polish and Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15 and all you do is rub the polish on your lips, wash it off, and follow using the treatment. All in all, it takes about 40 seconds to revitalize your lips, enhancing your all-over facial glow. Enjoy.

I’ve been out of touch for a while now, but I’m back, and there will be more to follow soon.

As always, let me know what you think.

Cheers,
Taylor
